The G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans
Past...Mississippi State and Veterans: A Legacy of Support.

G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery
1920 - 2006
The Montgomery center honors the legacy of the 1943 Mississippi State alumnus and 15-term U.S. congressman who authored the Montgomery G.I. Bill. "Sonny" Montgomery's leadership, statesmanship and public service enhanced the lives of generations of Americans, particularly veterans of military service. Also, because we are a memorial to Congressman Montgomery, our goal always must be to provide nothing less than comprehensive, professional service to all veterans who choose to attend the university.
Present...an Emerging Center of Excellence.
The university's G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans was established by President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong to provide higher education opportunities to veterans through programs and services unavailable from other institutions. The center's goal is to recruit veterans and to provide them with counseling and guidance, academic advice, and mentorship, among many other benefits.
Future...A National Center for America's Veterans.
As we continue to grow the center will work to enhance benefits and services provided exclusively to veterans enabling them to enjoy academic and life-long success. Initiatives include the following:
- Veteran exclusive incentive packages (tuition discounts, room-and-board allowances, dislocation allowances and spouse job assistance)
- Veterans Upward Bound Program
- Joint MSU and Department of Veteran Affairs Academic and Research Centers
