Captain Kermit O. Evans, Sr. Annual Scholarship

Background

Capt Kermit O. Evans, 31, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer, was killed Dec. 3, 2006 in Iraq when a helicopter he was riding in made an emergency water landing in western Al Anbar Province. CPT Evans was a native of Hollandale, Mississippi. CPT Evans was also an alumi of Mississippi State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.

In June 2010, his wife, Perneatha Evans, established the Captain Kermit O. Evans, Sr. Scholarship Fund at Mississippi State University.


Criteria

Candidates for the Captain Kermit O. Evans, Sr. Scholarship Fund must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a veteran, active service member or a dependent attending Mississippi State University.
  • Provide an essay documenting how they have made a difference through community service.
  • Preference will be given to a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Mississippi State University.
