DEA CH 35, Dependents’ Education Assistance

How to Receive Your Benefits Each Semester

All current students (on campus and online) must submit Military Benefits Form for every semester in order for students to register for class. An email will be sent to the student population via SA-MSUVeterans when registration time occurs. That email will contain the registration date, registration time as well as a PDF copy of the Military Benefits Form to be returned to the Center for America’s Veterans’ Office.

The Center for America’s Veterans will only accept forms that have been completed fully, have been scanned and emailed (no photos of forms) to veterans@msstate.edu or turned into the office in person at 250 Bailey Howell Dr., MSU, MS 39762.

Incomplete forms or photos deemed unacceptable to the Center will not be accepted.

Military Benefits Forms do not require an advisor’s signature, however, CAPPs will be checked by Certifying Officials. Any classes that are not required for a student’s major will not be reported to the VA, which could potentially impact VA payments.

VA Payments

The VA only pays a monthly housing allowance under this entitlement. Please keep in mind all other expenses charged by Mississippi State University are the responsibility of the student. This can include:

  • Tuition + Fees
  • Housing
  • Flex Dollars
  • Meal Plans
  • Parking Pass

Please keep in mind that the VA pays for number of calendar days in school for your Basic Housing Allowance. So, housing payments to Mississippi State University must either be paid up front or a payment plan should be in place. In addition, payments in August, December, January, and May will not be for a full payment. Those payments will be based on Mississippi State University’s  academic calendar. For payment rates please visit the VA website

The Center for America’s Veterans does not have access to payment dates from the Veterans Administration for monthly housing allowances or book allowances. Please call the VA Educational Hotline for any payment dates at 1-888-442-4551.
